Rory O'Connell wins the Ambassador of the Year gong at the prestigious Good Food Ireland Awards.

AN East Cork chef and teacher has scooped the Ambassador of the Year gong at the prestigious Good Food Ireland Awards.
Rory O’Connell of Ballymaloe Cookery School won the award for his contribution to the Good Food Ireland Food Summit, the largest food showcase in Ireland in 2013.
Mr O’Connell has spent more than 20 years cooking in some of the finest kitchens in Paris and Ireland.
He worked with the Ryan brothers at the acclaimed Arbutus Lodge in Cork city, but in recent years has been teaching others to cook at the Ballymaloe Cookery School which he founded with his sister, Darina Allen.
The Good Food Ireland Awards were created to highlight Ireland’s culinary culture to residents and visitors.
In total, Cork had six winners at the awards ceremony in Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.
The Cafe of the Year went to Kalbo’s in Skibbereen, while the Best Seafood Restaurant went to Fishy Fishy Cafe, Kinsale.
Sage Restaurant in Midleton won the Food Innovation Excellence Award and Milleens Cheese on the Beara peninsula won the Producer of the Year for Ireland South.
The Food Shop of the Year went to Urru Culinary Store in Bandon.
