Joseph Trivelli is co-head chef (with Sian Owen) at London’s iconic River Café, where he has worked since 2001. Southern Italian on his father's side but born and raised in Kent, Joseph is currently working on his first cookbook following the publication of several popular contributor pieces in Observer Magazine.
Joseph’s passion for food was fostered over long holidays in his grandmother’s native Bisaccia, in the region of Irpinia. He remembers pilgrimages to buy hot pizza from the village bakery and, some time later, spent a year as an undergraduate in nearby Naples living off tuna pasta and sweet espressos. On return to England, he wrote a letter to Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray, co-founders of The River Café, asking to be considered for a few trial shifts. Fifteen years on, he is as rigorous and dedicated in his commitment to the restaurant's strictly seasonal Italian cookery as the day he started.
