Michael Kelly is an author and founder of GIY (Grow it Yourself), an emerging global movement of people who grow their own food which started in Ireland in 2009.

He has written columns on food and health for The Irish Times, The Irish Independent and Food & Wine Magazine. He has written three books about growing your own food, including GROW, COOK, EAT which will be published this autumn and features contributions from Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, Dylan McGrath, Donal Skehan, Darina Allen, Rachel Allen, Neven Maguire, Clodagh McKenna, Alys Fowler and Mark Diacono. Michael is an Ashoka Fellow, and a member of the TASTE Council of Ireland.

He worked for ten years in the IT industry in Dublin but now lives the good life in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford with his wife and two little GIYers.

He grows his own food, often badly.

It is the only festival of its kind in Ireland and has created an important hub for food and drinks enthusiasts worldwide to meet and share ideas with each other.
