Paddy Frankel | Litfest A Food and Drinks Literacy Festival at Ballymaloe
I was born and raised on a mixed farm in Doneraile, Co. Cork.
I studied science at Trinity and completed a masters in Zoology in 2005. Following this I took 6 months out and cycled 14,500km from Dublin to Capetown. On returning I studied commercial organic horticulture with Jim Cronin in Killaloe. On our farm in Doneraile, Co. Cork, I began producing organic meat, fruit and vegetables for sale to in the Coal Quay Market and also supplied restaurants in Cork City. The farm now has 6 acres of horticulture, a 4 acre orchard, beef cattle, sheep and geese.
My aim is to diversify our farm activities on a small scale to explore what systems work best, spread the risks and expand our product range.
