Wine talk and tasting
Mary Dowey, one of Ireland’s best known wine writers, will present a talk & tasting on wines to accompany spicy dishes from a range of different cuisines.
Mary Dowey is one of Ireland’s leading wine writers. Wine editor of The Gloss magazine since its launch in 2006 and wine correspondent of the Irish Times from 1995 to 2005, she has visited and written about almost all of the world’s major wine-producing regions.
She contributes to the internationally renowned wine magazine Decanter, particularly about the Southern Rhône and Provence – areas of special interest about which she writes every few days on her widely followed blog www.provencefoodandwine.com. She was responsible for the Southern Rhône section of the major book The Wine Opus, covering 90 leading estates in that region. An experienced travel and food writer as well as a wine writer, Mary also edited the English edition of the Michelin Green Guide to Provence 2012.
She has written three books about wine – two guides for Irish consumers and one book aimed at an international audience, reflecting her enthusiasm for exciting wine and food partnerships. Food and Wine: Matching Made Simple has been translated into eight languages.
Mary Dowey’s Weekend Wine Courses were run at Ballymaloe House, Co Cork yearly for the past 12 years, and guests came from far and wide to learn the essentials of wine appreciation while enjoying superb food, great wines and good company.
We are delighted to be welcoming Mary back to Ballymaloe for the Literary Festival.
